Indigo Bloom
Materials: paper, water-based ink, alcohol
Dimensions: 9”x 12”
The color reminds me of butterfly pea flowers, and I wanted to explore with this ink. I started with drawing a dark fluid line using this ink, and with an eye dropper, I applied small drops of clear alcohol in places that made the dark ink expand into organic round shapes. This was a fun exploration using two different liquids reacting from each other, which created unexpected shapes.

I love the blurry gradient it creates within, almost like a Japanese Shiori dye I’ve seen on cloths.
